My Favourite Books of 2016

I read a lot of great books in 2016 and so I thought I'd do a post to talk about my favourite books of the year.  These are books I read in 2016 not necessarily books that were released in 2016.  Also they're not in any particular order.

Lady Midnight (Dark Artifices book 1) by Cassandra Clare
I was very excited about reading this book because it was the start of a new Shadowhunter series and I loved it.  I can't wait to read the next books to see where Cassandra Clare takes this series.

Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels book 8) by Ilona Andrews
I loved getting back in the world of Kate Daniels with this book and I loved reading about all the familiar characters again.  Each book in this series is just as action packed and compelling to read as the previous books in this series.

A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR book 2) and Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass book 5) by Sarah J Maas
I was a bit weary of reading ACOMAF before I started it as I'd heard the story took a completely different turn from the first and I loved the first but I loved ACOMAF even more than the first book.  I loved the new characters that were introduced.  I also loved Empire of Storms.

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
I read this book at the start of 2016 and it really surprised me.  I was expecting the story to go in a certain way but instead it went in a completely different way and because of that I ended up really loving this book.  I can't wait to read more of Adam Silvera's books.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
This book is told from two sisters points of view during WW2.  And because of the subject matter I thought it might take me a while to get into the book but I was captivated by the characters of this book and their stories from the start.  I thought this story was very beautiful and emotional and definitely a story I'll remember for a long time.

The Midnight Star (The Young Elites book 3) by Marie Lu
I loved this book and I thought it was a great ending to the series.  The ending of this book really stood out to me (just like the ending of the Legend trilogy that Marie Lu wrote) and it really made me reflect on the series.

Gemina (The Illuminae Files book 2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
I think this book series is definitely one of the most uniquely told books that I've ever read.  The way each book is written adds a whole other layer to the book that helps you get more absorbed into the storyline(if that makes sense).  And so I found this book just as exciting and thrilling to read as the first.

Orange manga (The Completely Collection volumes 1 and 2) by Ichigo Takano
I read both omnibus volumes of the manga this year and was shocked by how much I liked the series.  I loved the manga artwork and thought the story was beautiful.  This manga is about a girl who ends up getting a letter from her future self that tells her to do certain things different in her past because she'll end up regretting them in the future.  This is a really great friendship driven, coming of age story.

Behind the Hands that Kill (In the Company of Killers book 6) by J.A Redmerski
This is the 6th book in a series that I absolutely love.  This series is about a group of professional killers.  The characters in this series are some of the most messed up/dysfunctional characters I've ever read about and adding that to the super thrilling storyline of each book makes you not want to put these books down.

Shades of Honor (Anomaly book 2) by Sandy Williams
This is the 2nd book to a adult sci-fi/ fantasy series that I started last year.  I thought this book was even better than the first as we got to see more of the characters back stories.  This series has a great combination of action, a great storyline, romance and very likable characters.
