Book Review: A Curious Tale of the In-Between by Lauren DeStefano

Book: A Curious Tale of the In-Between
Author: Lauren DeStefano
Genres: Paranormal, mystery

Pram Bellamy has always seen the two worlds around her: That of the living-happy and dull. And that of the dead-hiding unnoticed behind every door. But the orphaned Pram much prefers the company of the ghosts that only she can see, especially that of her best friend, Felix.

Then Pram meets Clarence, a boy from school who has also lost a parent. Together they arrive at the door of the mysterious Lady Savant, who promises to help. But this spiritualist knows the true nature of Pram's power, and what she has planned is more terrifying than any ghost.

Praised as a “moving and multilayered tale” New York Times bestselling author Lauren Destefano's unforgettable story of friendship, love, and what lies hidden in between is not to be missed.  -Quoted from Goodreads

My Rating: 4/5 STARS
My Review:
The reason I picked up this book was because of the author.  I've read a lot of Lauren DeStefano books and I love her writing style.  And even though I haven't read many children's books I decided to read this after reading a few snippets Lauren DeStefano released on twitter of it.

I really liked this book and I'm glad I picked it up.  This story is about a little girl named Pram and her unique ability to see ghosts.  The book explores serious topics such as looking for a place to belong.

The main thing I liked about this book, which was also the reason I wanted to read it, was the writing of it.  Lauren DeStefano has a really unique writing style.  It's hard to describe but it really draws you into the story and I just feel that I really connect with the writing style.

I liked the story and that surprised me because I expected the story to be more suited to children, and I thought I might find it boring in parts because of that but I found the story to be really interesting.

I really liked Pram, I thought she was a great character that was fun to read about.  I liked reading about her relationship with her aunts and her friendships with Felix and Clarence.  Although I would've liked to have seen more of her friendship with Felix.
Overall I enjoyed this book and I think it's a really fun read.

  1. Nice to know you enjoyed this. I've read the first books on DeStefano's YA series and never had a chance to go beyond that. I was eyeing this before but decided to stay away since MG books never worked out for me. So I'll just be here waiting for her to write another YA dystopian series. Great review though :)

    1. Thanks! Lauren DeStefano has a new YA series coming out this year, I don't think its dystopian but the cover was just revealed recently and it looks really good.
